C+D OpLove Air Force Homecoming | Norfolk Military Homecoming Photographer

C+D’s homecoming was only my second OpLove session and couldn’t have been more different than my first. The first was a big event at the Navy base and we were welcoming home several dozen of Marines. D’s homecoming was a more humble, but just as emotional affair. Instead of being welcomed home by a hundred people, he was welcomed home by his lovely wife and two close friends at the Norfolk International Airport. It was all of the anticipation and excitement condensed into an intimate affair….in the middle of an airport. =)

C was so cute in her nervousness! She had seen D only once in his 6 month deployment, as she was able to visit him at the base in Cuba. She realized shortly before the plane came in that she’d been wearing the same color when she last saw him! Coral might have a whole new emotional association for her from now on. =)

While this homecoming was short, it was definitely just as sweet to see the look on C’s face when she first caught sight of D walking out of the gate. The sweet relief on both of their faces was amazing. When holding his wife again, D appeared to be fully at peace with the world. It was a beautiful moment.

Thanks so much for allowing me to tag along on your special day, C+D! I had a great time and was so happy to be able to capture this sweet moment for you.

C+K OpLove Marine Homecoming | Hampton Roads Military Homecoming Photographer

C+K’s homecoming was my first OpLove session and was such an amazing experience. It was great meeting C and being able to hang out and get to know her for a few hours before the Marines flew in. I could tell she was really nervous and anxious to see K, but she held it together with such grace and elegance that I was impressed and humbled.

The look on C’s face when the first helicopter appeared in the sky was breathtaking. The girl just BEAMED! And the moment she saw him….she was unstoppable! Being able to capture their first moments together again was such an emotional experience for me. The love that they have for each other, even after so many months apart, was so apparent and wonderful to behold.

Thank you so much, C+K for allowing me to be there to capture your special day. I wish you all the best!

New OpLove sessions coming soon | Norfolk Military Homecoming Photographer

My poor blog has been so neglected this winter!  As an on-location photographer, I don’t do many sessions in the winter, so there’s less for me to blog about, unfortunately.  I’ve been putting all of my cold weather focus onto my boudoir business, so while blog has been busy, this one has been languishing in the cold.

Not for much longer, though!  I have one family session and two Operation Love: Reunited military homecoming sessions to post in the next few days.  With Hampton Roads having such a large military community and so many bases, there are certainly no shortage of OpLove homecoming session opportunities.  I routinely have to turn away many, many families for each homecoming as there just aren’t enough OpLove photographers to accommodate everyone’s special day.  If you’re a photographer, we need you!  Please check out OpLove for information on how you can give back to military families that give up so much for their country.

Anyway, check back for new sessions ASAP!  I hope to post one tonight, depending on how the whole homework/shower/dinner/bedtime routine goes for my daughter and I tonight.  =)
